Why Us?
I’m Becky Handy, President of Tar Heel Paving Co., Company and the daughter of Mr. Roland Cecil,( deceased ) one of the founders of our company back in 1954. Over the past 25 years, while working with my father. I watched him preach to our folks, and I have continued his message:
“Put yourself in our customer’s shoes”
You and Us
We are well aware that the last thing you need is our operations interfering with yours. We are well aware of OSHA, DOT and EPA rules, and go the “extra mile” in complying with them. We retain Safety Services of America,-SSA, who, provides much of our safety advice and materials.
SSA also provides advice and materials to some of the Fortune 500 who are home based in the Carolinas. They are very knowledgeable about “ WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN IN COURT”……. which benefits our customers, and us..
Our personnel, from new laborers, to Superintendents have been trained on how to lessen losses,……and when a loss does occur, …..” what to say / do so as not to make the situation any worse.” ALL of their training is documented, on file, and is for your use, as well as ours, should some TV attorney be looking for EASY MONEY
I would welcome the opportunity to meet with your management before you decide on a contractor.
Becky Handy President
Safety Training
Documented Safety Training occurs…….
……….monthly, weekly, and daily
Monthly: Or more often, Becky Handy, Pres. meets with Division Superintendents and Supervisors to discuss:
- Customer requests / concerns
- OSHA and DOT activity and RULE changes
- Corrective actions taken to lessen reoccurrence of accidents
- Our BUSINESS Insurance Underwriters requests
- Their SUGGESTIONS
Weekly: For the jobsite personnel via the green Supervisor Safety Topics (10 minute Tool Box Talks) written by SSA. These weekly meetings are conducted at the jobsite, by their jobsite Supervisors / Foremen, who attend the monthly meetings (above)
These SSTs are signed and dated by all attendees. Each of their CDL TRUCK DRIVERS receives a blue Driver Safety Note – DSN, which he reads, signs, dates, and returns for filing. These DSN’s cover DOT Regs., Losses common to their industry, and our CUSTOMER’S RULES regarding their CDL driver’s operations (examples of weekly SSTs and DSNs follow).
Daily: ”Training future Foremen” occurs daily at all jobsites. This is where TAR HEEL Supervisors / Foremen train our employees in the safe / safer, way to do a variety of jobs at their jobsites so that, in time, they will become good Foremen.
These accountable TAR HEEL Supervisors / Foremen are well versed in OSHA, common sense, and do, put themselves in their customer’s shoes.
Documentation / Files: On all of the above are kept on file at Tar Heel’s main office for at least seven years for the benefit of Tar Heel Paving, and their customers.
Defense attorneys will tell you…… “ If it isn’t in writing…..It never happened “
